Thank you Baptist Men for building the ramp at the Forman House for
Joseph Forman. Thank you for even cutting down a tree that
was in the way of the ramp.
Joseph was able to use the ramp twice before he died. Once he used the ramp with his
wheelchair to go to a Doctor's appointment. Another time he used the ramp by walking and holding onto the handrail to go to the Pharmacy with Elaine.
Thank you so much. Your kindness and sacrifice is truly appreciated.
God bless these good men who share their time and their talents.

Salute to Baptist Men helping at the Forman House

Five of the Bethesda Baptist men visited the Forman house and built
a ramp in a day for Joseph Forman. The men are Jerry Gilmore, Charles Wilson,
Lehman Godwin, Bob Jones and Jimmy Peele.

God says You are Welcome

I have been saying thank you to God a lot lately.
Last night "God says you are welcome" with this beautiful sunset.
Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday.
It has been a very hard year and God has been good.
My son was living in Hawaii and they
found out he had cancer.
His brother saw him through 6 months of chemo and was
a great caregiver.
I was here praying for my son but unable to be with him.
God is good, he preserved my son for me.
John flew in from Hawaii yesterday and late yesterday we decided
to go to town to pick up some last minute things for Thanksgiving.
As we were traveling from home to Smithfield
we saw this
wonderful tribute
of God's goodness and mercy and grace.

My son John Boyette took this picture of a sunset in Johnston County
as we were driving to Smithfield.
What a miracle that statement is, that John is alive,
that he is here, that God is blessing us everyday
even when we don't see His sunsets.

Morning has Broken

The quiet of the predawn is broken only by the swoosh of wings and
the call of birds hunting for breakfast in formation just above
the water's surface.

The birds soar and boats enter the water courses adding their sounds together.

The sun rises in the sky now and life begins to quicken it's pace a bit.

Man began his course before the sun was above the horizon so that
they can meet in the water...the boat and the light.

The Sunrise kisses the boat with a wish of blessing as the boat passes
on it's way to a busy day of joy, with fishes to catch
and stories to build one fishy phrase at a time.

Strength to weather the storms.

Bending with the winds and prevailing in the face of
years of trial because of being rooted and grounded.

Providing shade and rest for the weary.

Spreading welcoming branches to one and all.

Limbs reaching up as if to praise the Lord and laying down a shadow that
is controlled by the light and moves with the light. The shadow does not control the
light, it is the light which controls the shadow.

Martha's brother-in-law Brian and her sister Jane joined us at the Restaurant.

The food and fellowship were wonderful. It was nice to eat a great meal and

no one had to clean up or wash dishes. In addition to the great food

was excellent conversation and sharing. God is good.

Wild Checkers on the Porch at the Christmas House

A good old-fashioned game of checkers between JerryLee (professional checker shark) and Elaine who hasn't played checkers in 50 years took place on Saturday in Southport. The game was grueling and was watched by Martha and Sharon and a few old men sitting in chairs waiting for their wives to finish shopping. Checker after checker was crowned and advanced on the defenseless little checkers of Elaine who was preoccupied taking pictures of butterflies and wasn't paying attention to JerryLee's master moves and swift strategy.

Sharon captured this moment when the red checkers outnumbered the black four to two. It was a sad moment in checker history when Elaine finally had to concede defeat to the masterful JerryLee. A humorless little man with nothing better to do happened to comment that "it looked like an old-fashioned whupping" to him. But who asked him anyway. OK so it was a massacre.
Martha looks on as her friend of 37 years takes a whupping.
The butterflies claim that it was not their fault they were just gathering nectar.
JerryLee celebrates her win and plots for the next ambush of a likely victim.
Be afraid, be very afraid she looks mild mannered but she is one wild and crazy checker player.

"Don't say I didn't warn you." said Elaine.

The Woman at the Well Meets Jesus

Sharon, JerryLee and Lynne are looking forward to the Retreat and stop on the way for a little nourishment and maybe a little chocolate. Lynne drove the Church Van.

Susan and Cheryll two busy professionals, a nurse and a 6th grade school teacher know the importance of taking some much needed time off to refresh the spirit.

This trip is taking a little longer than planned. "Yes" that is

a school crossing

and "No", those are not children.

There it is the landmark we were expecting. Oak Island Lighthouse

ahead on the left. It's not far now to Caswell.

Robin gives us instructions and room assignments. What a treasure she is!

The facts about the retreat are that Doris is our teacher and friend. Cindy was our guest speaker for the weekend. Brenda came to lead the music. Robin and Sharon did most of the planning. Elaine's friend of 37 years, Martha, came along too. Others attending the fifth annual retreat included: Suzanne, Cheri, Susan, Carol, Lynne, Cheryll, Sue and JerryLee. It was a weekend to "Come and Meet Jesus".
